5 Unforgettable Personal Touches for Mother's Day 2020

Posted by Starner Styles on May 4th 2020

One day a year certainly doesn’t seem like enough time to properly honor your biggest cheerleader, wise counselor, favorite jokester, maker-of-the-world’s-best-food, you mom. We know how much she means to you, so we’ve put together a list of seven special, personal touches that will make sure she has the best Mother’s Day ever.

ONE

Write a note-card with your favorite memories about her over the course of the last year. They can be poignant moments, hilarious moments fit for an outtake reel, or snapshots of an event that embody her spirit and character.

To bump this up a notch, you can start a journal and begin a tradition. Every new year, you can add to it and it will become a favorite keepsake for mom, guaranteed!

TWO

Recreate her favorite trip. Does she love to mention her cruise down the Rhine? Or retell the story about that restaurant nestled in the hills of Tennessee? Or maybe she cherishes that embroidered scarf she bought in Venice.

This Mother’s Day, get creative on recreating this trip. Research a local recipe and get to work in the kitchen, decorate the living room per traditional custom, or put together a slideshow of the vacation photos.

THREE

Create a digital photo collage about her, the family, and her interests. Even if you aren’t artistically inclined, sites like Canva offer free templates for you to drag and drop your own photos, text, and decorations to produce a gorgeous, high-quality photo-book. You can send a PDF file for absolutely no charge, whatsoever, or go through the on-site publisher for a bound copy.

FOUR

Remember when you brought your art project home from school and ran to show mom? She held it in her hand while wrapping you tightly in a half-hug and told you how she would treasure it forever? Because it was something you made?

Well, guess what. She misses when you brought her home noodles stuck to paper with glue.

Now, we aren’t saying that’s the direction to go with this one. As grown-ups, we can do better, right?

So, hand-pick wildflowers. No seriously. This is the perfect time of year to forage for the season’s first floral offerings. Hand-picking flowers will let your creativity out and your efforts are sure to pay off. You can gather a variety, if your area allows, or a bouquet of all the same stems, which is striking as well. Experiment with the wrapping and ribbons to make your presentation really stand out.

A thoughtfully crafted handmade gift shows that you value her. Go for it!

FIVE

Refurbish something she loves. Most women have something in their possession that they absolutely love but is either a little worse for wear, or broken completely, awaiting “one day” when she finally has time to fix it.

It may be a particular string of beads that broke 2 decades ago, but she keeps it because of the stories wrapped up in it. Get it restrung for her!

Maybe she has a hand-carved chair that she refuses to get rid of, even though the fabric is worn and faded. Get it reupholstered.

She loves to sit in the den and read or play games and she’s been meaning to update the paint for ages. Edge the room, lay down the tarps, and get to work!

This one is particularly wonderful because it shows that you pay attention to the things she believes are important. It also addresses the repairs and upgrades that she doesn’t have the time or energy for since she is always looking after everyone else.

These are five deeply personal ways to make a difference to your mom’s Mother’s Day and make it one that she will remember forever.
